Anambra state government has dismissed two officials of Unified Hybrid Enforcement Team, working for the Anambra state Internally Generated Revenue for misconduct and manhandling a driver and driving away with his vehicle in Onitsha.

The Chairman Anambra state Internally Generated Revenue, Dr Gregory Ezeilo announced this during a media briefing in his office in Awka.

A video of two personnel from UBET working for AIRS where they dragged a commercial motor driver out of his vehicle and drove away with the same vehicle went viral on social media.

To clear the ground on what actually led to the action of the personnel though they were overzealous, the AIRS through its chairman Dr Ezeilo decided to tell the story behind the act and to also announce the punitive measure put in place for such misconduct.

Announcing the dismissal, Dr Ezeilo said that the personnel checked the system and discovered that the said driver was owing Anambra state government taxes but instead of exhausting the one-month process of getting tax defaulters to pay their monies including getting a warrant before action, they ignored due process before they embarked on enforce in a manner that is unacceptable.

He said it will serve as deterrent to other overzealous personnel who go about taking laws into their hands and dragging the name of government to the mud.

Dr Ezeilo announced that they will soon introduce Artificial Intelligence surveillance in parks starting with Onitsha to check touting in the state, where every driver will have an Identity Card which will be scanned to ascertain that the said driver has paid before he would be allowed entrance into the pack.

Dr Ezeilo also said that he will unveil twenty-one secret monitors in all the zones who will be unidentified to monitor the enforcement teams in a bid to sanitize the system.
