Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for drawing the attention of federal government to the gully erosion threatening the Onitsha-Owerri Road on the Oba axis.
The Minister who was in Anambra State to inspect ongoing federal projects, gave the commendation when he visited the gully erosion site for an on-the spot assessment.
Engineer Umahi who also commended Governor Soludo for being proactive in awarding an erosion control work at the site to save road users from untold hardship, described the gully which has cut off one lane of the express road as a disaster, promised that the Federal Government will collaborate with the Anambra State Government on the design to ensure that the quality of project meets the challenge.
The Minister promised that the federal government will assist the state government to make the road motorable.
The Works Minister concluded his visit at the second Niger Bridge where he commended the contractor handling the project on the quality of work done while appealing to them to change the street lights on the road to solar energy.
On the issue of concessioning road construction work, the Minister explained that twelve roads have advanced on public-private partnership model and revealed the federal government plan to build hotels, supermarkets, service stations, filling stations, packing areas and eateries that will also be on public-private partnership model.
He maintained that part of his agenda is to ensure that roads in the South-East are built with concrete pavements and assured that with the support of citizens, the present administration will fix all roads.
