Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that students in senior secondary classes in all public schools in the state will not pay any fee or levy that is totaled about five thousand naira; with effect from this first term.
The Governor made the announcement when he visited Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha to interact with students of the school.
Noting that children of the poor need access to quality education, Governor Soludo described education as the equalizer between the rich and the poor, and reassured of his commitment towards quality education in Anambra geared towards building human resources that will be productive at home and exportable abroad.
Governor Soludo, who further noted that quality education is key to achieving a livable and prosperous Anambra, said the free education is necessary to allow every Anambra child have access to quality education, and warned that no fee or levy should be paid by any child in Anambra from this term.
Before making the announcement, Governor Chukwuma Soludo took a tour of facilities in the school and promised to rehabilitate infrastructure in public schools in the state.
He noted that his mission is to fix infrastructure in the public schools, and to ensure effective learning in schools owned and managed by the government.
He called on communities, parents, students and other stakeholders to be involved in the evaluation of teachers’ performance to ensure effective implementation and productivity.
The Principal of Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, Mrs Chinelo Okocha, while welcoming the Governor to the school, described him as education-friendly, with huge investment in education sector.
Among the Governor’s entourage were the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngọzi Chuma-Udeh, Chairman, Post Primary School Service Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi, and other top government functionaries.
