Eight persons have been empowered with two hundred and fifty thousand naira each in Nimo Community to boost their businesses.

 

The empowerment programe . organized by the Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, featured commissioning of a skill acquisition center built by Senator Uche Ekwunife and facilitated by NTDU, at Egwegwe square, Nimo, Njikoka council area.

The beneficiaries were Ugo Ngukor and Dom Ezeoke from Etiti-Nimo Village, Akunna Kingsley Chidi and Melody Fredrick Chukwuma, from Ifite-enu Village, Uchenna Anyadiegwu and Ikejide John Paul from Egbengwu Village and Uchenna Edochie and Fabian Ogbuabana from Ifiteani Village, the four quarters that make up Nimo community.

 

Announcing the empowerment, the President General NTDU youth wing, Mr Gold Obiefuna said the programme is to key into Anambra state government’s efforts in youth empowerment and development.

Mr Obiefuna said that more of such gestures will come up at intervals to ensure that youths of the community grow steadily and help their fellow youths to grow financially.

 

Soon after, some youths of the community trooped into the square, harassing and disrupting the event, though the event was almost coming to an end before the incident occurred.

Meanwhile , the Nimo Youth Empowerment programme was preceded the previous day by the inauguration of the Caretaker Committees of the youth wings of four communities in Awka by the President of ASATU youth wing, Mr Ken Okolie, who made it clear that the constitution provided for the conduct of youth leadership elections by ASATU but that where elections were not conducted, the PG of the concerned community had the power to appoint a caretaker committee that would be operating pending the conduct of elections.

The NTDU Youth Wing leadership was later blessed by the Dean of Nimo Catholic Deanery, Reverend Father Alfred Anazodo, at Saint Vincent’s Parish Nimo.
