The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago has re-stated his commitment to ensuring uninterrupted rice and cassava production in the council area.
Comrade Anago disclosed this when he received the Anambra State representatives on the committee of the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP)for Awka North Local Government Area in his office in Achalla, the headquarters of the local government.
The Chairman while commending the Anambra State representatives for the all-important role the VCDP plays in ensuring uninterrupted food supply chain, charged them not to relent in maintaining the existing peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders across communities in the council area.
According to Comrade Anago, Awka North Local Government Area being an agrarian area deserves a harmonious atmosphere at all times for the agro-economic activities of the people to thrive.
He promised to always offer necessary and timely support to the activities of Value Chain Development Programme in Awka North, in order to succeed in its core mandate of ensuring unhindered rice and cassava production in the council area.
Earlier in an address, the Anambra State Representatives led by Mr Emmanuel Okonkwo, assured the mayor of carrying out their mandate to the core and also pledged their unflinching support to the Chairman and the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration which he noted has demonstrated commitment to developing an agro-based economy in the State.
Awka North is among the eight local government areas in Anambra State selected for the Value Chain Development Programme due to her comparative advantage in rice and cassava production.
The Awka North Local Government Committee on Value Chain Development Programme chaired by Comrade Anago and coordinated by the Assistant Chief Agricultural Officer for the council area, Mr. Obiorah Anaenugwu, has as members, officers of several security agencies among others.
