The traditional Ruler of Awka Community Obi Gibson Nwosu says the sixty-third anniversary of Nigeria as an independent and Sovereign Nation calls for sober reflection.

 

In an interview with Abuchi Nwozor on the sixty-third Independence anniversary of Nigeria, Obi Nwosu who regretted the poor development index in Nigeria sixty-three years after it regained freedom from Great Britain blamed the problem of the country on bad governance.

 

Describing Nigeria as a country that is richly blessed, the traditional Ruler of Awka Community called for harnessing the Nation’s potential for enhanced development of the country.

 

Obi Nwosu who canvased for the adherence to federal character principles in offering key appointments in Nigeria, especially in the Judiciary, called on Nigerians to see the development of the country as a collective responsibility and reminded the people of the need to always pray for those in leadership positions to enable them deliver on their mandate.

 

He regretted the hardship Nigerians are passing through following the removal of the subsidy on petrol and made a strong case for the revamping of the Nation’s refineries to ensure availability of petroleum products and at an affordable rate.

 

On Anambra State, Obi Nwosu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his exploits most especially, the ongoing construction and reconstruction of roads which Awka the state capital is benefitting immensely as well as his free education policy which he said is a clear indication that Governor Soludo is committed to improving the living standards of the people.

 

The Awka Monarch charged the people to be alive to their civic responsibilities in the areas of regular payment of approved government tax and levies to enable the government continue to serve them better and cautioned the people against purveying fake News which he said is capable of causing confusion and tension in the society.

 

Obi Nwosu praised Governor Soludo for renaming the Anambra State International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri after a literary icon, the late Professor Chinua Achebe, describing it as a step in the right direction.
