It was a display of the rich cultural heritage, custom and traditions of Ndi Nnobi in ldemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, as they stood behind their Monarch lgwe Nick Obi during their 2023 New Yam festival known as Ashaolu.

 

MTN Telecommunication Limited as usual sponsored the event just like other festivals in Nigeria as the first widely used telecommunication industry.

The Royal Father of Nnobi, lgwe Nick Obi, while breaking the kola nut presented to him by Ndi Iyom Nnobi” prayed to their forefathers for peace, unity, and love in their community.

 

Speaking to the ABS, lgwe Obi said their cultural heritage has come to stay and that they are ready to preserve it while commending members of the community for their efforts and support to ensure the protection of life and property as well as empowering youths through their skill acquisition training centres.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief protocol, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye commended the community for promoting their Ashaolu festival and underscored the importance of preserving the culture and tradition of Ndigbo and its necessity to the overall development.

The traditional ruler of the community, lgwe Obi also used the occasion to confer Chieftaincy titles on some illustrious members of the community, including Chief Emeka Ezeonu who was bestowed the title of ” Ikemba Nnobi ” Chief Obinna Nwajinka and Chief Chijioke Akusoba who were admitted into the Royal cabinet of the Community as Ndi lchie, the Transition Committee Chairman of ldemili South Local Government Area, Mrs Amaka Obi who was given the title of “Iyom Ife Abata” , and the newly appointed Special Advisers to lgwe, Obi, Chiefs Uzochukwu Ezenwanne, Mike Oramalu, Obi Okpala and Mr. CIC Ugochukwu.

Responding Chief Ezeonu expressed appreciation to lgwe Obi for finding him worthy to be one of his cabinet members and promised to sustain his mission on youth empowerment, as a way of giving back to the society and mobilizing the youths.

 

On his part, Chief Emeka Okafor highlighted the benefits of culture in lgboland, adding that various skill acquisition centres have been built for youths in order to engage them gainfully.

MTN, Major sponsor of this year’s Ashaolu, individuals, groups, friends and well-wishers who attended the event paid homage to the traditional ruler of Nnobi, Igwe Obi while cultural troupes and masquerades from Nnobi and neighboring towns added glamour to the event.
