Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, has charged professional bodies in Nigeria to prioritize the training and retraining of their members to promote professionalism.

Barrister Ifeanya gave the charge, when a delegation from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Awka branch, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Jerome Udoji secretariat complex in Awka.

While stressing the importance of research through collaborations, and knowledge sharing, for one to be abreast in knowledge and modern technology, Barrister Ifeanya noted that their desire to promote a high standard of engineering practice in Nigeria and Anambra State in particular, is purely in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision.

Barrister Ifeanya, who assured them of his support, also encouraged them to always be committed to their duties, shun quackery and sharp practices, stick to their professional ethics to nip in the bud increasing cases of building collapse across Nigeria.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Engineer David Okeke, said they came to seek partnership with the ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, which according to him, can foster synergy, knowledge exchange and collaboration to drive positive change and advancement in the Petroleum Industry.

Engineer Okeke, who listed interested areas of partnership to include Expertise and Knowledge sharing, Policy formulation and Implementation, Industry advocacy and Standards, Research and Development as well as continuous Professional Development and Capacity building, said it can lead to improved policies, enhanced technical capabilities and development of sustainable engineering practice, benefiting, both the Petroleum Industry and the State.

The delegation presented some books to the Commissioner during the visit.
