A community leader in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Jonathan Nzekwe has joined the call for the establishment of Black Smith village in Awka to ensure that Black Smithing which Awka Community is known for does not go into extinction.
Speaking on the Blacksmithing trade, Chief Nzekwe maintained that the establishment of Blacksmith Village in Awka will go a long way in rekindling the interest of the Youths who are the leaders of tomorrow in engaging in the skills of Blacksmithing.
He called on the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka to establish the Department of Blacksmith studies in the institution as another means of ensuring the sustainability of the age long Blacksmith trade in Anambra State, South East and Nigeria at large.
Chief Nzekwe who hails from Umuonaga village Awka, said that when the government accord recognition to the art of Blacksmithing, it will go a long way in offering employment to teeming youth populace thereby reducing crime and criminality in addition to boosting the internally Generated Revenue of the Anambra State Government.
He called on the Special Adviser to the Governor on science and innovation to seek ways of partnering Awka Community to ensure the realization of Blacksmith village in Awka which he said will be of immense benefit to the Anambra State government.
Chief Nzekwe commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his legacy projects in Anambra State especially the One Youth Two Skills aimed at repositioning the Youth for efficient service delivery and called for it’s sustainability.
He commended the traditional ruler of Awka Community Obi Gibson Nwosu for his peaceful disposition which has continued to attract more government presence in Awka the state capital, and called on the people of Awka especially the Youths to avoid acts capable of retarding the spate of development in the area.
