The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria,ANAN, Anambra State Branch has joined its counterparts across Nigeria to celebrate their annual Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, programme.

 

As part of the activities to mark the programme, members of ANAN, Anambra State branch visited Community Secondary School, Amawbia and Model Community Children’s Home, Awka to encourage and give them a sense of belonging.

The Community Secondary School Amawbia, the association gave exercise books and pens to the students while at the Model Community Children Home, Awka, the association donated several items including a bag of rice, cartons of noodles, detergent, carton of soap, beverages, cartons of gala, clothes among others.

 

At both places visited, some key officials of the association spoke to the students and children about professional accountancy, as well as how they can start laying the foundation for a brighter future by making the right career decisions today.

In an interview, the Chairman Anambra State branch of ANAN, Mrs Nkechi Ofoedu explained that ANAN celebrates Corporate Social Responsibility programme annually which she said the essence is to touch humanity and show that ANAN cares.

 

She encouraged everyone to strive to touch at least one life positively irrespective of whether they are affluent or not.

 

Also speaking, a fellow of the association, Dr Oby Elechi,who is also a Director at the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Awka, said the visit to the school was to create awareness on the accountancy profession as well as speak to them on morals especially as the society is becoming decadent on daily basis.

On the free education policy, Dr Elechi described it as a welcome development noting that with the policy, no one has any reason not to send his or her children to school.

 

In their separate remarks, the state Treasurer of the association, Mr Charles Aghadinauno and Publicity Secretary, Mr Celestine Muonaeche said CSR is a way of giving back to the society as an organization which has existed in the state for decades and encouraged the inmates of the model community children home that the future is still theirs irrespective of their circumstances.

 

The Principal of the school, Mrs Ngozika Nwankwo, Senior Prefect of the school, Miss Amarachi Ugo, officials of the children home, Mrs Virginia Obiekwe and Mrs Veronica Osonwa expressed appreciation to members of the association for their kind words and gifts while the children prayed God to replenish the association abundantly.
