The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, has called on Ndi Anambra, friends and well-wishers to come and celebrate Anambra Iri Ji festival scheduled for Saturday, twenty-first October at the Alex Ekwueme square, Awka.

 

The Commissioner made the call during the Ofala festival of Obi Alfred Achebe at his palace in Onitsha.

 

He said that the essence of the Iri Ji Anambra is to promote the culture, business, hardwork and peaceful coexistence among people of the state, adding that the festival, which would be celebrated in spectacular way, will feature side cultural dances, masquerade performances, traditional wrestling among others, and should be sustained by all generations.

 

Commissioner Onyenji said Iri Ji Anambra is a heritage which must be sustained for the posterity, calling on brand owners, companies and organizations to take advantage of the celebration to showcase their products and services to the world.

 

He commended Obi Achebe and Onitsha people for celebrating their ofala in a spectacular way; with lots of sponsors, saying that other communities will like to get to that level.

 

On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman for Onitsha South Local Government Area, Mr. Emeka Orji, described the ofala Onitsha as a huge success, and thanked Onitsha people for their interest in promoting their culture.

 

He said that part of their efforts to ensure safety during the yuletide was the joint security team launched between Onitsha South, Onitsha North, Ogbaru and Idemili North Local Governments, and encouraged Ndi Anambra to come home and celebrate; as security in Onitsha and environ has been beefed-up.
