Anambra State Government says it will look into issues causing crisis in Onitsha Aluminum, Allied Dealers and Technicians Association in order to foster peace in the market.

 

This followed a peaceful demonstration carried out by members of the market.

 

while addressing some members of the Association led by their new Caretaker Committee, the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi commended the association for the peaceful protest and stressed that the state government still recognizes the Caretaker Committee it set up recently, restating that the Chairman remains, Mr Toochukwu Anaekee, Brother Ndibe Ikechukwu, Secretary, Chief Lazarus Ogbuali Assistant Secretary, Mr Chigozie Nzeakor, Treasurer and Mr Ezeukwu Stanley, Financial Secretary.

 

He continued that Mr Ndubuisi Igwe, is the PRO, Mr Onuora Ekpunobi and Mr Emeka Anadu Members.

 

Sir Ernest assured them that government will sustain efforts to ensure that peace and stability are restored in the market.

 

He maintained that the government embargo placed on election of market leaders still stands and warned that anybody going against this, is violating the Governors order and will be called for questioning.

 

The Chief of Staff urged the former executive members of the market and the Board of Trustees members alleged to be fomenting trouble to give peace a chance.

 

Some of the protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘We need Governor Chukwuma Soludo quick intervention in the market” “Tomax Aluminum is our Authentic Chairman”, “We say no to illegal collection of levies”, “We don’t want touts in, OAADTA,” “BOT members leave us alone” among others.

 

Speaking to Journalists, the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Mr Ikechukwu Ndibe and Mr Chigozie Nzeakor recounted the ordeal the New Caretaker Committee has been passing through from the former executives and BOT members and expressed satisfaction that the state government has promised to wade into the crisis to restore normalcy in the market.

 

Others who spoke during the protest including, Engineer Toochukwu Umeh, the Vice Chairman Zone One, Mr Osondu Ogueji disclosed that the Caretaker Committee chairman, Mr. Anaekee was taken to Zone-13, Ukpo with other executive members which prompted their members to stage the protest to register their grievances to the state government, alleging that the former executive members and BOT members were using thugs to harass and collect illegal levies accruing to government and the market, placing embargo to the association account and refusing to render account of their eight years stewardship.

 

They called for quick intervention to restore lasting peace and stability in the market.
