Urum Anike community in Awka North Local Government Area has again shown that community development is not just a task for the government but for all, by executing two projects at the community primary and secondary schools, and laying a foundation stone for the reconstruction of dilapidated community market, “Oye-Urum”.

 

The community also procured security gadgets for the vigilante group of the town.

Urum Anike community, through the town union, built a five-blocks modern toilet at Community Primary School Urum, installed solar system and streetlights at Community Secondary School Urum, procured security gadgets for the Urum Anike Vigilante Group, and equally commenced the reconstruction of the collapsed Oye-Urum market.

 

Commissioning the projects, the Anambra state Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, represented by Zonal Education Officer, Awka Zone, Chief Ambrose Ikwunyelu, who restated the commitment of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration towards revamping the education system of the state, commended Urum Anike community for embarking on the projects to support government’s efforts in the education sector to promote qualitative learning and comfort of students and teachers, assuring that efforts will be made to ensure that the community schools benefit from every intervention from the government for schools in Anambra.

Flagging off the construction of the dilapidated Oye-Urum market, the Member representing Awka North at the state House of Assembly, Honourable Chimezie Ikwunne, commended the efforts of the President General of Urum Anike community, Mr. Aloysius Tabansi, towards total transformation of the town, describing the market project and others as things that will speak for him in times to come, and encouraged other community leaders in Awka North to borrow a leaf from Urum Anike community for the betterment of the council area.

Honourable Ikwunne told the people to exercise patience with Governor Soludo on the construction of their dilapidated road, disclosing that the Soludo administration, which he said has the interest of people of Awka North at heart, has a plan to link up all the communities in the local government area so as to help people in the area access their local government headquarters at Achalla without having to go to Awka through Dunukofia Local Government and Igbariam.

Handing over the security gadgets to the Vigilante Group of the community, the state Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Mr. Chikodi Anarah, represented by the Administrative Head, Anambra State Vigilante Group and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Soludo on Security, Chief Samuel Ezenduka, who noted that the government of Professor Soludo has zero tolerance for crime and criminality, commended Urum Anike community for supporting the efforts of the government in ensuring adequate security of lives and property across the state, and warned that the Anambra State Vigilante Group and other security agencies in the state will not allow the existence of hoodlums in any part of the state.

Earlier in an address, the President General of Urum Anike community, Mr. Tabansi, explained that the interventions by the community are geared towards actualizing his promise of transforming Urum town, adding that apart from the projects commissioned, his administration has done a lot of other projects in the community, including perimeter fencing of the community secondary school, building of corps members’ Lodge and installation of streetlights across the community, among others, calling on Governor Soludo to come to the aid of the community in the area of construction of the about five kilometers dilapidated road linking the town with Isuaniocha and Awka; in order to reduce the sufferings of the people.

Some of the stakeholders in the community, including Chiefs Matthew Nwodo and Ephraim Nnaemeka, thanked God for giving them Mr. Tabansi as their President General, noting that Urum Anike community has witnessed a lot of position changes through his leadership, and prayed God to give him more wisdom and knowledge to pilot the affairs of the town.
