The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has bagged the National Grand Patron of Prisoners from the Controller General of Correctional Center as he Celebrates his seventieth birthday with Inmates of Onitsha correctional Center.
The event attracted people from all walks of life including, the Papal Nuccio to Czech, Republic Most Reverend Thaddeus Okolo, Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Wife Nonye, Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtoochukwu Udeze, Secretary to the State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Barrister Slyvester Ezeokenwa, Dr Chris Ngige, Senator Victor Umeh representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly Senator Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District Former Governor Peter Obi, Controller General Correctional Centers ,Haliru Nababa and Deputy Controller, in charge of Medium and Security, Onitsha, Agugwa Benson, among others.
Delivery a homily to mark the event Most Reverend Okeke emphasized the need for the people to always thank God for His kindness, benevolence, magnanimity and generosity adding that such attracts more blessings
He further stated that he is showing his own gratitude to inmates in the Onitsha correctional center by building a skill acquisition center where they can learn series of skills, as well as secured approval from the State government to commence their Secondary school to obtain their WAEC and do other works in the Center, aimed at developing their talents.
During the Celebration, Archbishop Okeke administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on some inmates, urging them to repent and be rooted in things of the Lord.
Addressing the gathering Governor Chukwuma Soludo eulogized Archbishop Okeke for always celebrating his birthday with inmates and for the Acquisition center he built to help them develop their God given talents.
He thanked Ndi Anambra for their support assuring that more roads will be inaugurated while work is ongoing on those already inaugurated.
The Governor promised to offset the WAEC Examination fees of about one hundred and one inmates and to install Solar lights in the Acquisition center.
In their separate Speeches, the Controller General correctional Center Abuja, Halina Nababa, represented by Slyvester Nwkauche, the Deputy Controller of the correctional Center, in charge of Medium and Security Onitsha, Mr Anugwa Benson, expressed happiness over Archbishop Okeke’s gestures and congratulated him on his seventieth birthday.
In a comment the Chaplain of the Onitsha correctional Center, Reverend Father Batho Okpalafulugo, thanked Archbishop Okeke for Celebrating his birthday with them and building of over five departments of skills Acquisition center and Promised of its proper use.
The event also featured Cutting of the Cake, among others.
