A non-governmental organization, Anambra State Women Association of Southern California, United States of America, has donated medical equipment worth millions of naira to eight primary health care centres in the state.

speaking during the handover of the equipment meant for Primary Health Centre, Ogbunike in Oyi Local Governments Area, the President of the association, Mrs. Nnenne Bosah who revealed that they formed the association as sisters and that they had before now donated medical equip. ment to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka and Onitsha General Hospital, now Federal Medical Centre, Onitsha.

Mrs. Bosah explained that they thought it wise to donate to the Primary Health Centres which are closer to the people at the grassroots for them to benefit from it, as not everybody will have the time and resources to go to the secondary and tertiary hospitals in the city, and made it clear that all the eight Primary Health Care centres that benefited from the exercise had already received their items.

 

She pointed out that the government alone cannot do the job and revealed that they chose four local governments for the exercise, namely Anambra East, Anaocha, Idemili North and Oyi Local Government Areas and selected two facilities in each of the council areas.

 

Mrs Bosah appealed to the various communities whose facilities benefited from the donation to take ownership of them at all times.

 

While commending the association for a job well done, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done a lot to improve the healthcare sector in the state, including the recent free antenatal and delivery services for women and called on other Anambra women in the diaspora to emulate what the association has done.

 

Appreciating the Anambra State Women in Southern California for remembering their community, Mrs. Ifeoma Meka prayed God to bless and sustain the association for them to reap the benefits of their benevolence.

 

Some of the facilities that benefited from the exercise were, Primary Health Centres in Umuoba Anam, Ideani, Nteje, and Abata Nsugbe while hospital beds, delivery couch, delivery sets, accuchek meters and strips, lancets were among the items that were donated by the association.
