Women all over the world are the pillars of the society. They are not just an epitome of beauty but are hardworking, caring and supportive members of society. Gone are the days women are seen as mere housewives. Today, a lot of women have made remarkable impacts in different areas of life thereby contributing their quota to the development of our society. To further facilitate their empowerment, therefore, Women of Patience and Help Organization was founded by Mrs. Adaeze Grace Nwokoye who hails from Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State to meet the needs of women in education, health, family planning and many others. On the 13th of December 2013, the nongovernmental organization was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission with the registration Number 65955. It was further registered in Anambra State in 2014.
The organization headquartered in Awka, Anambra State has branches in all the twenty-one local government areas in the state with over ten thousand members. Over the years, Women of Patience and Help Organization has maintained their schedules to meets their aims and objectives geared towards empowering women and bettering the lives of the less privileged. These include the establishment of cooperatives and maintaining a package known as “Stomach Affairs” through which the organization has reached out to vulnerable individuals and groups. The organization has also reached out to over ten different women groups in different parts of the state including Eziowelle, Nibo, Mbaukwu, and communities in Awka North and South, Orumba North and South local government areas through their food scheme.
Also, the organization holds seminars, trainings and workshops from time to time in different parts of the state. These are to inspire, educate and equip women. At the seminars, they teach and re-orient women to adopt the right attitudes to life particularly in marriage, encourage them to discover and make use of their hidden talents and also hold interactive sessions where issues relating to health, family
planning, general hygiene, child training and development are treated extensively.
The organization also has a team of medical experts that help to educate the women on the symptoms, prevention and management of certain health hazards including HIV/AIDS. Currently, Women of Patience and Help Organization is carrying out a free medical check-up for women with cervical cancer. So far, over twenty women in different parts of the state have received free medical treatment through this NGO. Also, nothing less than fifty students have benefited from the scholarship scheme of the organization. It also plans to establish adult education centers in all the local government areas of the state in future. This will help give women the opportunity to go back to school and learn. Meanwhile, through its skill acquisition training, many women have been trained and have acquired one skill or the other to help improve their lives financially. During these trainings, they are introduced to latest agricultural techniques and also learn how they can source for improved seeds and breeds.
Recently, Women of Patience and Hope Organization received support from Reim Orange Global Ltd, a real estate firm which was targeted at giving women the opportunity to own a land at discounted rates. The plan is that they pay through daily contribution over a certain period of time after which the papers of the land are handed over to them.
The organization has also supported some widows and motherless babies’ homes with food items, toiletries and clothes.
All these and more were made possible through the resources contributed by members in form of dues and levies.
The new vision of the Women of Patience and Help Organization is to partner the Anambra State government in her regenerative agricultural revolution by helping to clear some of the bushes in the twenty-one local government areas of Anambra State and converting them to farms where the women can produce different specie of mushrooms, tomatoes and pepper.
Therefore, to mark the tenth anniversary of the organization, a women summit and youth development programme has been planned to hold tomorrow Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka. Time is 10am. The event which will feature the unveiling of the anniversary project of the organization by Prince Engr Dr Arthur Eze (Ozigbondu) will be chaired by Chief Ngozi Agudosi (Ogene Nnobi).
