The News and Current Affairs Department of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, has hosted a send-off party to bid farewell to its immediate past Director, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, and other retiring staff of the department.

 

The event also marked the sixtieth birthday celebration of Mr. Okpalaeze

Held at the Stella Okoye’s Hall within the ABS premises, the celebration attracted distinguished guests including the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, represented by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochi Ikenga, ABS Managing Director, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, ABS Directors, other media practitioners and ABS staff.

Among the retirees honored at the event were Lady Monic Okechukwu, Mr. Theophilus Ukoha, Mr. Fidelis Nwakwesili, Mrs. Regina Onyeanusi, Mrs. Ifeoma Okoli, and Mrs. Edna Okonkwo.

 

The gathering served not only as a farewell to the retirees, but also as an occasion to celebrate their remarkable contributions during their years of service in ABS.

The event also provided an opportunity for the former Director, Mr. Okpalaeze, to impart his valuable knowledge and experience to staff of the News department through a lecture.

 

Speaking at the event , the ABS Managing Director, Sir Chido, who described Mr. Okpalaeze as a model of diligence, dedication, and professionalism, said the occasion was a moment for reflection, and encouraged all staff to remain dedicated to duties and avoid negligence.

Earlier in a welcome address, the new Director of News and Current Affairs of ABS, Mrs. Judy Jeff-Nwabueze, while welcoming the retirees, expressed gratitude to Mr. Okpalaeze’s for his mentorship during his tenure.

 

In his valedictory lecture titled “The place of traditional broadcasting in checkmating social media excesses”, Mr. Okpalaeze urged traditional broadcasters to embrace professionalism in the face of increasing competition from online platforms, and thanked the news department for organizing the event for the retirees.

 

In a remark, the former Protocol Officer of Anambra State, Sir Charles Mbakigwe, offered encouraging words and appreciated the News department of the ABS for honoring Mr. Okpalaeze and other retirees.

Highlights of the event included cutting of birthday cake, presentation gifts to the celebrants by the News department and other individuals, as well as dance by the celebrants and all gathered.
