As Anambra State observed the usual monthly sanitation exercise, Nnewi North Local Government Area witnessed high compliance by residents and road users.
Human and vehicular movements were restricted as many people participated in the exercise both on streets and in markets.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Enginner Chris Obiorah, in company of enforcement team, toured the area to ensure that wastes are being evacuated accordingly.
Speaking during the exercise, Engineer Obiorah emphasized that healthy and clean environment is critical to the development of Nnewi North, and assured that the exercise will remain a weekly activity in order to achieve the best result.
He encouraged the residents to inculcate a better attitude towards environment for sustainability.
Engineer Obiorah pointed out the negative impact of improper waste disposal, and advised that people should always use the receptacles provided all around Nnewi for better waste management.
In an interview, some residents, including Mr Onyebuchi Oguchi and Mr Emmanuel Nwafor, pointed out that the importance of having a clean environment cannot be overemphasized, and commended the efforts of the Anambra State Government and the Transition Chairman of Nnewi North, Engineer Obiorah for their tireless efforts towards making the environment clean and healthy.
Areas visited by the Nnewi North TC Chairman, Engineer Obiorah during the sanitation exercise were Area Command, Ibeto junction, Nnewi Roundabout, Igwe Orizu road, Orie Agbo market Nnewichi, Nkwo Nnewi market, Bank Road, among others.
