The saying that the labours of our hero’s past shall not be in vain is the best way to describe the move by the Traditional Ruler of Achalla, Igwe Ositadimma Nwokedi to immortalize the late Igwe Joseph Nwokedi by introducing annual lecture series in his honour.

 

The lecture series which kicked off in 2022, took place at Igwe Ositadimma’s palace in Achalla.

The event, reports that Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the chairman Anambra state Traditional Rulers Council and the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Obi Alfred Achebe attended the event.

 

Addressing Ndi Achalla including men women groups, youths as well as students, Dr Ibezim reminded them that the present administration under Governor Chukwuma Soludo is out to give quality representation to the people in all sectors of the economy which he said the Governor is doing simultaneously.

Dr Ibezim while commending Igwe Nwokedi for choosing health as topic of discourse this year noted that the present administration is strengthening health care delivery so much that very soon, no one will have any reason to complain of lack of health care services, even as he called on the women and girls of the community to listen with rapt attention to the lecture on health and to always go for periodic check to be able to prevention terminal illnesses.

 

In an opening remark, Igwe Nwokedi explained that last year’s event served as introduction to the lecture series while this year’s lecture was the first lecture series.

Igwe Nwokedi noted that the lecture series will be featuring different topics that would impact on the people of the community, a reason he chose health and land issues as this year’s topics to open his people to what they should know about themselves and their lands to avoid regrets in future, and thanked all who graced the occasion.

 

Delivering the first lecture on cancer as a killer disease and screening for early detection, a Gynecologist, Dr Emmanuel Nwokoye discoursed various types of cancer and the need for early detection through tests, personal and professional examination, urging women to always examine themselves so that they can prevent breast and cervical cancer instead of running helter-skelter for cure which he said is often difficult

In another lecture, Anambra state Commissioner for Land, Professor Elochukwu Amaucheazi, cautioned against involvement in fake land transactions , urging Ndi Achalla to endeavor to secure their lands as their treasure, even as he advised anyone who has landed property to register with the ministry to get their lands uploaded on the map as a means of stopping any future land encroachment by speculators .

 

The President General of the community, Mr Nnamdi Ikwunne while appreciating Igwe Nwokedi for the move, said that the late Igwe Nwokedi contributed immensely to peace of the community and also worked hard to ensure that the people have quality health care services.

 

The late Igwe Nwokedi died in 1975, but his legacies have lived on.
