The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, says the essence of Christianity is to prevent man from practicing idolatry.

In a sermon at Saint Luke’s Parish, Awa in Orumba North Local Government Area during a dedication service for a new church building, Bishop Ezeofor regretted that despite the wide spread of churches, idol worship is still on increase.

He described exclusion from daily worship of God as the greatest sin a Christian will commit, adding that worshipping God faithfully with sacrifices attract more blessings and mercy.

Bishop Ezeofor, who maintained that God does not owe any body, charged affluent individuals to always channel their resources to evangelism, pointing out that there are many blessings that follow such gestures.

He stressed the need for Christians to always maintain the sanctity of the church as the only place where powers are received through prayers.

In his remark, the traditional ruler of Awa, Igwe Israel Ezue, who attended the service with members of his cabinet, commended Bishop Ezeofor for all his good works in Aguata Diocese, and charged Nigerians to always engage in things that promote peaceful coexistence.

A parishioner, Sir Paul Nwafor, and the pioneer President of Aguata Diocesan Council of Knights, Sir Isaiah Ezezika, regretted the rate at which youths are going back to idolatry and called for concerted efforts by Christians in fighting the ugly trend.

The service, which was attended by the President of Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor, the Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwudi Okoli, a stakeholder from Awa community, Chief Ambrose Egwuonwu, former Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Pharmacist Alphonsus Muogbo, and some diocesan officials, featured special anthem by the choir, cutting of the cake and presentation of car to the church for missionary purpose.
