Work is in progress at Ozomagana Street that connects Zik’s Avenue and Miselems roads in Fegge, Onitsha.
Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works made the observation while oversighting the project as part of their legislative duties.
The Committee, which spoke through its Chairman, Engineer Emma Nwafor, observed that the construction firm handling the project is working according to specifications, and commended quality of jobs done on major culverts in the area.
Conducting the Committee round the project site, the Project Manager, Engineer Austin Ezeadi, explained that they are designing roads and the drainages on the road, as well as maintaining old culverts and building new drainage system for the entire area.
He assured that the three point two five-kilometer road will be completed next year.
At Miselems connecting Silas Works Road in Fegge, the Committee commended the quality of drainages being constructed by the firm in charge of the project, and charged them to stick to specifications.
The Committee, however, observed that some buildings in the area were constructed without safety tanks, and this results in the occupants discharging liquid and solid waste into the drainages under construction.
The Works Committee condemned the situation in its entirety, and directed landlords in the area to put soak-away pit in their compounds to salvage the situation.
Expressing gratitude to the Committee for their intervention, the Project Manager, Engineer Dennis Ikwu, revealed that works on the drainages will be completed in no distant time to pave way for earth work stage, assuring that the project will be completed in record time.
