Anambra state government has so far awarded three hundred and fifty kilometers of road numbering sixty-nine roads.

The Anambra state Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma made this known while addressing Architects and upcoming Architects during their 2023 annual conference held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Speaking on the theme of the Conference ‘Towards a sustainable built environment, planning, execution and post occupancy measures’, Engineer Okoma said Engineers must be economical, and have viable and sustainable plans when introducing any project.

Engineer Okoma noted that the problem with governance is that they introduce projects that are not sustainable.

He said there is need to take into cognizant that not using renewable source of energy to sustain the earth and the use of non-degradable materials is not friendly to the environment, emphasising that Anambra is facing shortage of land space due to erosion.

The Works Commissioner urged all to imbibe the habit of disposing plastic and sachet water nylon properly to avoid causing more havoc to the environment.

Engineer Okoma said lack of creating a proper discharge point by contractors contribute to loss of land to erosion which he said was why the present administration is bringing everything into consideration to ensure that such situations do not rise in future.

On post occupancy measures, he regretted that government and individuals lack maintenance culture and reminded them that decisions made by builders determines the future of the earth.
