The Anambra State House of Assembly has pledged its commitment to transforming the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, into a standard media organization that will set new benchmarks for the media industry.
This pledge was announced during a familiarization visit to the ABS corporate headquarters Awka by a delegation from the Anambra State House of Assembly, led by the Chairman Committee on Information, Technology and Creative Economy, Honourable Chuks Azotani.
The delegation’s visit marks the beginning of a partnership aimed at raising ABS to the highest standards of professionalism and media excellence.
Honourable Azotani in a speech during the courtesy call, underlined the essential role that the media plays in shaping public discourse and preserving the cultural and social fabrics of the state, expressing the Assembly’s firm commitment to supporting ABS in its transformational journey.
The legislator said that their goal is to bring ABS to international standards and equip it with the latest broadcasting technology and content, while commending the Managing Director of ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu’s tireless efforts in spearheading the ongoing transformation of the state-owned media organization.
According to Honourable Azotani, the committee has laid out a comprehensive plan for the transformation of ABS, which includes upgrading the station’s technical infrastructure, enhancing the quality of programming, and expanding its reach to a broader audience both within and outside the state, stressing the importance of maintaining a high level of professionalism and ethics in journalism.
Responding, Sir Chido commended the Committee for recognizing the need to enhance ABS’s capabilities and services, emphasizing the importance of a strong government-owned media platform in Anambra State in disseminating vital information to the public.
Sir Chido stated that it is a historic moment for the ABS, and that the station is fully prepared to embrace the changes that will enable them to become a standard media outfit representing the cultural richness and diversity of Ndi Anambra.
The ABS Managing Director also pointed out some key issues that need attention in the transformation process of ABS which he revealed that he is working assiduously hard with his management team to restore terrestrial status of ABS so that Ndi Anambra in the grassroots can watch the projects of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and activities of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
He praised the governor’s commitment to the ongoing transformation of the station, infrastructural development, healthcare, education, and various other sectors, acknowledging the positive impact of these initiatives on the lives of the citizens.
