The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Anambra State Chapter has held its 2023 FIDA Week and Award Day at FIDA Law Centre, Awka with the theme “Digital Technology: An Effective Tool for Curbing Domestic Violence and Child Trafficking”.
The event attracted personalities across the country, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance National Chairman, Mr Sly Ezeokenwa, Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Honourable Justice Peter Obiora, Mrs Ifeyinwa Obegolu and Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke of Abagana, Anambra State House of Assembly members among others.
In his speech, Justice Anyachebelu who noted that technology is life, said that all filing systems in the state’s judiciary will be automated by the end of year 2023 and congratulated the awardees at the event and the leadership of FIDA, Anambra State for hosting the event.
In an address, the 2023 FIDA Committee Chairperson, His Worship, Laureta Okoye explained that FIDA is a nongovernmental organization that offers pro Bono legal services to women and children and pointed out that the theme of the celebration was based on increasing gory tale of domestic violence which digital technology can be channeled effectively in curbing such violence in the society and crimes generally.
On her part, the Chairperson, FIDA, Anambra State branch, His Worship, Genevieve Osakwe, in a welcome address, gave the history of FIDA and revealed that FIDA Anambra has gotten a face lift and image as it relates to women and children and solicited assistance from the public to help the organization in achieving its targets and expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of 2023 FIDA week.
Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion, Hon. Justice Onyinye Anumonye re-echoed that technology will assist in so many ways in reducing domestic violence and child trafficking, while the immediate Chairperson of FIDA, Anambra State chapter who is also the Dean, Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Ogugua Ikpeze said that technology can be used as a hard evidence in court and advised women to avoid being violated, adding that FIDA office is always Open every Tuesday to attend to people.
A medical practitioner, Professor Emeka Ezeama gave lecture on cervical cancer while a guest speaker, Dr C.B Azigbo SAN, gave lecture on the Role of Information Technology in Curbing Domestic Violence, even as the secretary FIDA Week Committee, Barrister Lauretta Ikwuka gave a vote of thanks.
The 2023 FIDA Week featured drama presentations by the UNIZIK theatre Arts Students, Choreography and award presentations.
