The need for value re-orientation, revival and reformation of culture as components of lgbo identity formed the submissions of speakers at the 2023 Anniversary lecture of Sapientia International Media Center with the topic, “Igbo Renaissance and Identity, Between the media and the rest of us.”

 

The event which attracted stakeholders, academia, as well as captains of industry also offered a forum to cross fertilize ideas on socio-cultural development of Ndi lgbo, took place in Onitsha.

In his keynote, speech, the former Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr Uche Nworah who underscored the importance of re orientation and cultural values to the cause of lgbo renaissance, explained that Ndi-lgbo will continue to make progress experienced during the post-colonial era , when they embrace the cultural ideals, exemplified by past leaders, lamenting that the practice of colonization and western influence have affected lgbo cultural heritage.

 

Dr Nworah urged Ndigbo to embrace and promote cultural values even as he tasked the media to focus towards socio-economic development of the lgbo society.

Speaking at the event, a stakeholder Sir Godwin Okeke made a strong case for the creation of additional states in the South-East and urged Ndigbo to be more united as a formidable force for bargaining power.

 

He encouraged the youths to rekindle interest, explore business ideas so as to be economically empowered to make a difference.

The Head Department of Mass Communication Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu university Professor Angela Nwammuo in a lecture highlighted that lgbo language and cultural value should be part of school curriculum and decried the level of vices that has contaminated the society.

 

Contributing, a university Teacher Professor Emeka Obi and Reverend Father Fidelis Onwudufor called on upcoming generations to imbibe positive attributes in the promotion of lgbo culture globally.

Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director of Sapiential International Media Center Reverend Father Ossy Orakwe observed that the lecture aims at impacting and transforming the society for the better.
