The political class have been urged to imbibe the virtues of selfless service to entrench tenets of good governance in the country.

Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, said this would help tackle numerous challenges confronting the country.

Chief Okeke-Ogene regretted that most of the present leaders have jettisoned the ideals and vision of the founding fathers of the country like Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, geared towards raising national consciousness and high sense of patriotism.

He noted that Dr Azikiwe left a legacy that if embraced would have accelerated the drive towards sustainable and prosperous future, and called for increased mass reorientation to change the mindset of Nigerians and reverse the present unbridled quest for wealth, urging the youths not to be deceived by rosy and utopian life on social media; but should rather embrace hard work to become self-reliant.

Chief Okeke-Ogene commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, for sustained efforts towards protecting girls, women and widows from exploitation, maltreatment and harmful practices.

Also speaking, a radio Evangelist, Reverend Peter Ezenwaji, urged the present crop of leaders to emulate Dr Azikiwe by investing adequate resources in human capital development; as panacea for hunger and poverty, and recalled that the late Zik sacrificed personal resources to actualize the vision of University of Nigeria Nsukka for human capital development.

Reverend Ezenwaji, who is also a lawyer, recalled that Zik; throughout his life, fought for social justice, equality, economic and political emancipation of Nigeria and Africa, as well as ensured judicious use of available resources to uplift quality of life of the people.

He urged those in position of authority to emulate his simple life style of putting interest of the people and the country above every other consideration, and equip youths properly for a better future.
