It was a beehive of cultural activities as the traditional ruler of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Alexander Onyido performed his fourth Ofala festival.

 

The festival attracted sons and daughters of the community including their friends and well-wishers from neighbouring communities.

Twenty-four illustrious sons of the community from its four quarters received chieftaincy titles and were elevated to High Chiefs for their contributions to the growth and development of the community.

 

Traditional rulers from the state led by their Chairman, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe represented by the traditional ruler of Omor, Igwe Chidume Oranu attended the event.

The wife of the Ogidi monarch, Chief Mrs Patricia Onyido, Ndi Otu Odu na Ekwe Ogidi, Ndi Ichie, government officials, representatives from Emir of Kano led by Prince Bello Adebayaro and many other dignitaries were also at hand to witness the event.

 

During the Ofala festival, Igwe Onyido in company of his wife, Ndi Ichie and other Chiefs dressed in royal robes, danced round the Ofala arena at Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Ogidi to the admiration of the guests.

Kolanut rituals followed as Igwe Onyido prayed God to bless the land of Ogidi abundantly, give them long life, good health and prosperity.

 

Welcoming his guests, Igwe Onyido said the event provided them with the opportunity to celebrate their unity and love, display their rich cultural heritage in all its splendor, pomp and pageantry and also serves as an opportunity for the monarch stool to address its subjects.

Igwe Onyido expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for naming the Anambra Airport after their legendary brother, Professor Chinua Achebe and for the ongoing reconstruction of Ugwu Nwasike Road linking the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

 

The Member Representing Idemili North Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Kingsley Udemezue said since inception as traditional ruler, Igwe Onyido has brought total transformation, mordenize their culture and place high premium in helping the needy and down trodden as well as ensuring peace between them and their neighbors.

Contributing on achievements of Igwe Onyido, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North, Chief Chuks Igboanua, described Igwe Onyido as a philanthropist per excellent and called on Ndi Ogidi to support him for total transformation of the community, praying God for his successful reign.

 

On his part, the Traditional Prime Minister of Akanano Ogidi Engineer Chukwuemeka Nwabueze said the Ofala was to show appreciation to God for what he has done in the lives of Ndi Ogidi and display their rich culture and tradition to other tribes, calling on Ndi Ogidi to rally round their traditional ruler who since assumption of office, use his wealth of knowledge and resources to reposition the community thereby paving way for progress and development witnessed in the community.

The Chairman of Organizing Committee 2023 Ofala Festival Chief Chris Onwudiwe, noted that they were conferred with chieftaincy title to help in developing the community as Igwe Onyido is passionate to see that his subjects succeed and being the town of Chinua Achebe, he is doing everything to depict the town as the status of highly placed individuals in the community.

 

During the 2023 Ofala all the age grades, chieftaincy title holders and many other groups paid homage to the monarch while other cultural activities featured at the event.
