According to Williams Shakespeare, death is a necessary end that must come when it must. The holy Bible book of Ecclesiastics in backing up Shakespeare said there is time to be born and a time to die.
Thus, it is now fulfilled in the life of the Late Chief Sir Joseph Chinedu Emeka popularly known as “Joe JAMAICA” and “Ezeavojulu”, a colossus who lived an impactful life while on earth and proved once again that it is not how long but how well.
The life of late Chief Emeka is a testimony of humility, hardwork, generosity, and total submission to the will of the Almighty God.
Joseph was born on 23rd December, 1961 to the family of late Chief Edward and Mrs Victoria Emeka of Umuatuolu village, Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State. He was the sixth child in a family of eight children.
He had his primary and secondary school education in the 70’s before moving to Yola in the old Gongola State now Adamawa State to learn motor spare parts trade. He excelled in the trade but reconsidered his stay in Northern Nigeria which was rife with religious crisis. So, in 1992, he folded and relocated his family and business to Port Harcourt. It wasn’t an easy decision but his versatility and wealth of experience in business, and the help of his elder brother, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, he had a soft landing in Port Harcourt where he continued with his business of sales and supplies of heavy-duty spare parts. Today, his business, Joemek Enterprises is synonymous with an international and reputed firm, Intels Nigeria Ltd.
The Late Sir Joseph was married to Mrs Chinelo Emeka who died in 2013. The marriage was blessed with three children: Franklin Onyedikachi, Jessica Nneoma and Promise Chinonso Emeka. Eight years after the death of his first wife, he remarried Mrs Adaobi Faith Emeka in 2021
His wife, his children, his siblings: Chief Samuel Emeka, Igwe Emeka who is the traditional ruler of Umueri, Mr Godwin Emeka, Mr Christian Emeka, Mrs Gladys
Aniukwu and Mrs Elizabeth Akwueze and many other relations are left to mourn him.
The late Chief Sir Joseph Chinedu Emeka was a family man, a lover of people, an iconic businessman and a lover of his community, Umueri. He was the Chairman, Umueri General Assembly, Port Harcourt Branch for eight years; member, Umueri Royal Cabinet; member, Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Ada George, Port Harcourt; Patron, Forty-first Port Harcourt Company of the Boys Brigade; the President, Noah’s Group of Christian Men fellowship, among others. At the home front, he was a committed member of the Cathedral Church of St. Gabriel, Umueri and a knight of St. Christopher.
In fact, the Late Chief Emeka meant many things to many people but above all, he was a devoted Christian who served God and humanity until his demise on 15th October 2023 at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
