The Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, says the church has a vital role to play in transforming the society.
Most Reverend Ibezim in his message during the prayer programme of the Province of the Niger held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Gabriel Otuocha-Umueri said that through the instrumentality of the church, God brings light to the society.
Speaking on the theme of the prayer programme,”A Transformed Church: A Transformed Nation” Archbishop Ibezim maintained that a living church is made up of believers filled with the Holy Spirit and have the characteristics of obedient to the word of God and being prayerful noting that prayers made in holiness bring down the power of God and goes out with illumination and God’s presence that drives away darkness.
Archbishop Ibezim, noted that without prayers, the church will not be effective and reminded Christians, the ordained as well as prayer warriors the need for them to serve with enough oil for effective result as prayer is the key to a transformed church that will bring a transformed society, urging them to emulate the early Christians.
On his part, the Bishop of Niger West Diocese, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe who hosted the programme, urged Christians not to be conformed to the pattern of the world but should submit themselves as a living sacrifice unto God.
Contributing, the Provincial co-ordinator prayer network Province of the Niger Reverend Canon Bonny Ogaraku and the Provincial prayer secretary, Venerable Mike Mbamalu said the programme equipped the prayer intercessors to go back to their dioceses and various churches and practice the teachings they have received for a consistent prayer life.
The Prayer Co-ordinator of the host Diocese Venerable Caleb Nnatah and the local organizing committee chairman, Reverend Prosper Onu said it is an opportunity to serve God and to bring the redemption work of Christ to the world.
The programme drew participants from all the Anglican dioceses and churches in Anambra state and featured prayers for families, the church, Anambra state, government functionaries and Nigeria among others.
