Igbo culture and tradition was recently showcased at the Orumba South Local Government Headquarters, Umunze when the Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu in line with the Igbo tradition, celebrated with the traditional rulers in the area the kolanut he broke which appeared into seven cotyledons.
Speaking during the occasion, Prince Uchendu who was full of gratitude to God for the historic event, noted that he decided to celebrate his kolanut which appeared into seven lobes, as according to him, it is the first time since the creation of Orumba South Local Government Area that such has happened in the area.
He maintained that a colanut which produces seven lobes signifies good omen and prosperity as believed by Ndigbo, adding that Orumba South has continued to witness peace, unity and massive development especially under the Soludo administration.
Prince Uchendu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his outstanding cultural disposition, evident in his promotion of Igbo native attire as well as his continuous promotion of all cultural events by the State traditional ruler’s council and called on Ndigbo to continue to accord necessary respect to kolanut in view of its position in Igbo tradition.
The second longest ruling traditional ruler in the state, Igwe Felix Eberendu of Aguluezechukwu, noted that Igbo tradition must be sustained, stressing that breaking of kolanut is cardinal to the tradition of Ndigbo and commended Prince Uchendu for organizing such historic event.
The traditional ruler of Eziagu and chairman of Orumba South traditional rulers council, Igwe Bernard Emejuo, Igwe Peter Ezeamama of Enugwu-Umuonyia, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya of Owerre-Ezukala, Igwe Clifford Okeke of Nawfija as well as the former Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Emeka Sibeudu were among those that attended the ceremony.
