Comrade Humphrey Nwafor has been elected the new Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Anambra State.
Comrade Nwafor is the current Anambra State Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, Anambra State branch, and he took over from Comrade Chinwe Orizu whose tenure came to an end months ago.
The election which took place at the Nigeria Union of Teachers House, Awka, was supervised by the National President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero among other top union leaders in the state.
Comrade Ajaero, represented by the Assistant General Secretary of NLC National, Comrade Onyeka Chris, while reading out oath of office to the new executive, asked them to prioritize the welfare of members by putting into consideration the objective realities of the socio-economic situation in the country and to expand its reach to capture more workers.
He charged them to vigorously maintain peace and harmony in the workplace and most importantly, promote, project and protect the rights of the state workers against any form of oppression and suppression.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Nwafor said that he is trusting in God to pilot the affairs of the union in Anambra State to a greater height and assured that the congress shall continue in its tradition of ensuring that workers are protected from all anti-people policies.
He solicited the support of their members at all levels to restore the belief and confidence of the NLC as the bastion of hope for the masses and the voice of the voiceless.
He promised that his leadership would speak for the thousands of workers in the state and also seek a platform to uplift the cathedral for the union as a befitting rally point for workers in the state.
Comrade Nwafor and other members of the National Administrative Council will pilot the affairs of the congress for the next four years.
