Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC, has organized a training workshop in Awka titled, “Enlightenment Training Programmes on Application of E-commerce in Export Business for Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs was held at the Professor Kenneth Dike E-library, Awka and attracted participants from across Anambra State.
In his welcome address, the Anambra State Coordinator, NEPC, Mr. Ndubueze Okeke explained that the workshop was organized to expose young innovative entrepreneurs to opportunities in E-commerce as export business noting that there is need for a change in the economic trajectory of Nigeria as Nigerians can no longer depend on oil as the major source of foreign exchange earnings for the country.
He said NEPC is mindful of the importance of digital trade in today’s global economy which is in line with President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda and therefore the NEPC deemed it fit to provide a platform where the youths and other SMEs could share their experiences and interact with one another, pointing out that in today’s global trade, it is no longer defined by bricks and mortars but by deploying digital tools among other web-based technologies.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu in his remarks, stated that e-commerce is a huge sector in today’s global economy but in Anambra they are still at an early stage even as it aims to get the share of the global market hence the reason the state government is targeting to train at least one million people to become a digital tribe to sustain innovation, adding that the state government is looking to migrate all the businesses of government online where all the businesses one can access physically can be available online to provide a greater ease of doing business.
A Guest Speaker, Dr Peter Ejikeme who spoke on the topic, “Exploring opportunities in E-commerce,” described E-commerce as a means of buying and selling of goods, products or services using the internet as a medium whereby the buyer gets to see the products online, order it and make payments through the mode acceptable to the seller who then delivers these products to the consumers via available and acceptable means.
Dr Ejikeme mentioned the benefits in E-commerce and its challenges in Nigeria.
