Anambra State government has announced cash award of twenty thousand naira to the over fifty-nine thousand public servants in the state workforce.

 

This is in addition to their leave allowance which had been paid.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo made the announcement during the 2023 Public Service Day Celebration at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.

 

The theme for the celebration is “Digitalisation of Workforce Processes in the Public Service: A Gateway to Efficient Resource Utilisation and National Development.”

Governor Soludo who congratulated the state workforce for their dedicated service to the state government, described public servants as a key component of the service sector.

 

The Governor described the theme as the ladder of opportunity for the future and assured that in addition to what his government has been doing, he will increase technology work tools for public servants, to improve the skills of the work force, and make them fit for purpose.

While noting that Nigeria is currently being faced with some challenges, the Governor regretted that public servants who are with fixed income, mostly bear the brunt of the consequences, assuring that his administration will continue to do its utmost best to contribute to national development.

He assured that working together with public servants, his government is determined to continue to initiate programmes and policies and take development to the remote places, specifically benefitting the poor and down-trodden.

The Governor promised to provide free WiFi to workers at the Secretariat by the end of March, 2024, revitalization of buses for civil servants, among other things for the state work force.

 

In her speech, the Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe observed that civil servants drive the engine of progress in the country , noting that public service in the state has witnessed remarkable growth and disclosed that training programmes have been organised for one hundred civil servants on ICT, in addition to providing computers, organizing training for thirty civil servants on procurement management and social standards, E-identification scheme and promotion interviews among others and pledged support to the Governor’s programmes and initiatives.

Earlier, Former Head of Service and Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Ngozi Melifonwu said that a man is actually built to tackle problems, tasking civil servants on working towards finding solutions wherever they find themselves.

 

A minute silence was observed in honour of the former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

Awards were presented to deserving thirty-three civil servants, while cake cutting formed the highpoint of the event, attended by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, members of state Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries and Labour Union Leaders, among others.
