The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has stressed the need for the restoration of family values and increased awareness on the importance of healthy living.
Mrs Soludo stated this at Anaocha Local Government Headquarters, Neni, during the maiden women convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the Local Government Area.
The convention attracted the Transition Committee Chairman of the council, Mr Gerald Ozoh, other stakeholders of the party in Anaocha, women from the nineteen wards that make up the council as well as many other dignitaries who converged to promote the “Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya” mantra.
The maiden convention had the theme “Role and importance of women in politics”.
It x-rayed women participation and representation in politics as crucial to achieve gender equality, promote inclusive decision-making process and advance women’s rights and interest.
The convention raised awareness on the decline in women’s electability with the percentage decreasing speedily which can be attributed to negligence.
The Governor’s wife who spoke through the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo said it is very important and crucial for the women to engage in regular checks of their health, exercise, and to eat healthy meals.
She noted that the present administration is gender friendly as many women occupy strategic positions in the government and encouraged women to take the good news of APGA to their areas as it is the only ideology and umbrella for the Igbo race.
An APGA stalwart in Anaocha, Chief Inno-Poch Chikezie commended the convener of the convention, Lady Ijeoma Sunny-Egbuna for gathering the women under the umbrella of APGA to direct and open their eyes to so many things they are ignorant of, adding that it is important that the women should start early to relay the message of the solution agenda to all the nook and crannies of the state.
In an address, the convener, Mrs Sunny-Egbunna who is the APGA Anaocha Women Leader, maintained that women constitute a significant portion of the electorate and play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of elections, adding that women leaders possess unique perspectives, experiences and insight that can inform policies and address the specific needs and challenges faced by women in the society.
In a remark, the wife of the Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mrs Chiamaka Ozoh challenged the women to embrace the healthy living mantra of Nonye Soludo by immunizing their wards, visiting government hospital to access the free antenatal and delivery services.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Barrister Joachin Anaeto represented by Hon Romanus Ibekwe and the APGA Anaocha Chairman, Sir Anthony Ugorji also attended the event that featured presentations to the Governor’s wife, cutting of cake and other displays.
