Sustainable Development, in a simplified way, can be said to be an approach to economic, social and environmental planning that seeks to balance the economic and social demands of both the present and future human generations with a deliberate attempt to preserve or prevent undue damage to the natural environment.
Although sustainable development may seem to lack a detailed and widely accepted definition, one can view it as a general approach to human development that has modern, natural resource management, the 20th century conversation, environmentalism movements and progressive views of economic development as its values, principles and goals.
Judging from the principles of “sustainable development,” it will be agreed that Governor Soludo understands and is on course to achieving sustainable development in Anambra. Or, in a plain language, that Soludo is an embodiment of sustainable development.
Governor Soludo truly understands what it means to build for the future generations without damaging the prospects of the present generation going by his policies across every sector. In agriculture, there palm and coconut revolution targeting to move about five hundred thousand households out permanently out of poverty. This policy is paramount as it will boost the agricultural sector and protect the environment while feeding the beneficiaries.
In the health sector, Governor Soludo is building modern hospitals, upgrading the existing ones and employing health workers with plans of achieving universal health coverage. On education, the era of schools without quality teachers has ended, and plans are under way to revive the public schools.
Anambra has become a massive construction site with over 400 kilometres of roads with at least 20years life span under construction. Youth development has also taken a new dimension under Governor Soludo with the “1Youth, 2Skills” entrepreneurship programme.
Prudent management of resources and technology driven society are also on top gear on the Soludo’s sustainable development agenda.
Governor Soludo will also say “that he is building not only for today’s generation but for the generations unborn.”
Governor Soludo’s commitment to sustainable development is second to none. The reason why he is determined to revive Ontsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia, and Awka. With the proposed industrial parks, Awka 2.0, Onitsha 2.0, and housing projects for the elderly, it is very clear that sustainable development is not far from Anambra State.
Truly, a livable and prosperous Anambra State, where people would want to live, invest, learn, relax, and enjoy is possible when the Soludo’s vision is fully implemented.
