Governor Chukwuma Soludo says, sustained collaboration with various development partners such as the United Nations’ Children Fund, UNICEF, and United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, will help realize his vision of making Anambra State a livable and prosperous homeland, and re-assured UNICEF, UNDP and other development partners of more partnerships in 2024 and beyond.
In his remark in Awka while inaugurating a two-day “Partnership Roundtable Meeting” organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, in collaboration with UNICEF, Governor Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, said Anambra State Government will continue to partner development bodies on programmes designed to eradicate poverty and improve human capital development across the state.
He explained that from inception, his administration is clear on ways of achieving effective poverty eradication and improve the standard of living of the citizenry, adding that key programmes that would drive the policy had been initiated.
Governor Soludo noted that advocacy by the UNICEF, UNDP and other development partners will further strengthen the resolve of his administration to eradicate poverty in the state through industrialization.
He explained that with expansion of economic activities, attraction of more investments and exploitation of the abundant resource deposits across Anambra, the state targets increase in its Internally Generated Revenue.
The Governor commended UNICEF, UNDP and others for supporting the state government through various development programmes, and assured that his administration will create the enabling environment for the success of the social protection policies.
UNICEF Enugu Chief of Field Office, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe, while commending Governor Soludo for his efforts in achieving sustainable development in Anambra through social protection programmes, noted that the social protection policy will improve key aspects of human capital development in the state, even as the representative of UNDP in the state, Detalu Okosi, called for more collaboration in order to achieve more in 2024.
Members of the State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-udeh, Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr. Fred Agbata, used the opportunity to showcase their achievements in 2023 and plans for the state in 2024.
