Yusuf Babije from Plateau State has emerged the winner in the male category of the Anaocha marathon.

 

Babije was followed by Chimaobi Azubuike, from Imo State, and Clinton Amara also from Imo State.

In the female category, Charity Agofure from Delta State emerged winner, followed by Chidera Nweke from Agulu, and Queeneth Obijiofor; from Obeledu, both in Anambra State.

 

The marathon, which took off from Anaocha Local Government Headquarters in Neni, terminated at Eke Agulu market; covering over twelve kilometers, and the winners were certified drug-free before prizes were given.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr Gerald Ozor said the event provided yet another opportunity to showcase positive things happening in the area, especially among the youths.

 

He commended Governor Soludo for providing enabling environment, just as he thanked the sponsor for his kind gesture in promoting sports in the area as he does elsewhere.

Sponsor of the marathon, Dr. Joachim Aforjama, said he uses such events to touch lives positively as God blesses him, and commended the Anaocha TC Chairman, Ozor, for his achievements in the area.

 

The winners: Babije and Agofure, said they got information about the marathon on social media and registered to participate, and commended organisers for making it open for all Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion, adding that such would help in empowering the youths.

Talks on dangers of drug abuse by NDLEA officials, presentation of cash rewards and certificates of participation featured at the event that had as its theme, “Say no to illicit drugs”.
