The Federal government has been urged to accelerate completion of access roads to the second Niger Bridge to achieve the purpose of the project.

Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene said the project is critical for socioeconomic growth of not only Anambra State and South East region but also entire Nigeria.

Chief Okeke Ogene noted that completion of the project will ensure free movement of heavy volumes of goods and service to various parts of the country and reduce pressure on the old Niger Bridge as well as provide permanent solution to the challenges of traffic gridlock in that axis, especially during festive period.

He urged the government to put in place effective and efficient security measures including installation of close circuit television CCTV to protect the facility from being vandalised.

Chief Okeke Ogene enjoined communities to use the festive period to plan community development projects but regretted that economic hardship including naira scarcity, high cost of petroleum products and transport fares have denied many people the opportunity to travel home for yuletide and stressed the need to sustain efforts towards restoring local refining of petroleum products to make the products available and affordable.

The Ohaneze Ndigbo Vice President also urged the federal government to explore political options and release the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra Mr. Nnamdi Kalu, since a sitting Governor has volunteered to take him on bail, noting that this would ensure peace and stability in the Southeast region.
