It was a colorful event during the maiden Igba Odu Ceremony of Otu Odu Iyom Abba, Njikoka Council Area who promised to join efforts in community development and growth.
The cultural event held at Abba Civic Centre, had Iyom title holders from Abba and elsewhere dressed in their white attire and other paraphernalia of their titles displayed dance steps.
In his speech, the traditional ruler of Abba, Igwe Leonard Eze in his remark, commended the Iyom Group for their efforts in bringing women of the town together, advising them to always champion development and growth of the community while ensuring that the group is sustained.
On the significance of the event, the wife of the traditional ruler of Abba, Iyom Maureen Eze explained that the ceremony was to decorate those who have taken the Iyom title with Odu, to become fully titled as supposed and be empowered to take the three back hand shake, as known in the Igbo culture.
Iyom Eze further noted that only women of integrity are allowed to take the title of Iyom after a check on their character and their husbands must also be fully titled in the community, adding that the event will also serve as an avenue to bring women together for the development of Abba town by initiating and being of support to noble things.
In her speech, the President of Iyom Otu Odu Abba, Ajia-Chinyere Agagbo revealed that it is the first time the Igba Odu ceremony is holding at Abba town for the Iyom title holders to be fully recognized, believing it will bring peace, unity and development to Abba Community by harnessing the efforts of the women for progress.
An Abba stakeholder, Chief Cosmas Agagbo and the National President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo noted that the coming together of women in the community will accelerate growth in the community by supporting the traditional institution and ensuring their aim and objectives are achieved.
The Chairman of the event, Chief Olisa Okeke in the same vain, commending the women for their efforts at instituting the group in Abba, advising Ndi Iyom Abba to join efforts in moving the town forward especially in educating and being role models to girl child and ladies of Abba town.
The event was well attended by dignitaries and personalities from Abba town and beyond.
It featured decoration of Iyom title holders with Odu and presentation of certificates while one of those decorated, Iyom China Chukwumma expressed happiness for being honoured .
