In an attempt to alleviate the impact of the current economic hardships in Nigeria on the poor, the Diaspora Arm of the Coalition for the Protection Of Democracy in Nigeria has donated hundreds of five kilogrammes bags of rice to different communities in Anambra.
The benefitting communities include Ogidi in Idemili North local government area, Nnewi, and communities in Ihiala council area.
Speaking during the distribution, the State Chairman of the group, Comrade Chidi Nzekwe, stated that the primary objective of the initiative is to reach out to the vulnerable population within Anambra.
According to him, the Christmas and new year celebration offers the opportunity to show love and share with our family, friends and well wishers, hence, the need to put smiles on people’s faces, thus saving live for a better and brighter tomorrow.
He assured that the group will not relent in her efforts to continue to reach out to the needy and also initiate programmes aimed only at elevating the living standard of Nigerians.
While encouraging Ndi Anambra to remain hopeful and pray for a better Nigeria, Comrade Nzekwe went further to urge members of the communities not to give up on their expectations of a new and better Nigeria of their dream.
Also speaking, the Ihiala local government Coordinator of COPDEM, Reverend Father Bindel Odogwu thanked the donor for her kind gesture and goodwill, noting that it is a indeed a laudable and pleasant seasonal gift as it stands as a commendable support to the palliative programme earlier initiated by his foundation and prayed for more strength and God’s choicest blessings upon the donor and other partners.
He thanked the state Chairman for his dedication and passion towards the welfare of the people and assured his commitment of continuous partnership with the group in their subsequent programmes.
In their separate remarks, some of the beneficiaries from Ogidi community including Pastor Godwin Okwuonu and Engr. Thankgod Ikegwuonu, while extending their gratitude, equally appreciated the donor, Dr. Mrs. Nkoli Odili Ohudo for her milk of human kindness, noting that the effect of the subsidy removal is heavy on the people.
They also commended the State Chairman and the local government Coordinators for prioritizing their welfare, noting that the impact of the relief materials can not be overemphasized.
For Mrs. Dorathy Odionye of Umuike village, Ubahuekwem in Ihiala local government area, who spoke on behalf of the women, stated that their joy knew no bounds as she went heaped praises and appreciation on the group for their benevolence.
