People of Nawfia Community in Njikoka Local Government Area recently rolled out their drums to celebrate their 2023 Cultural Day.
The event held at Nawfia Town Hall attracted prominent individuals of the community from around the world, their neighbours, friends, associates and relations who gathered to be part of the Cultural Day.
One of major activities at the event was ipia agba by masquerades from Nawfia and neighbouring communities formed the center of attraction as thirty-two masquerades filed out in parade.
The ipia agba featured four different times with elimination stages before winners emerged.
There were performances by Okwomma, efiala masquerades, igba Chideraa and ogene music display where the Chief of Protocol to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr Chinedu Nwoye displayed some dance steps.
Speaking to the ABS, Mr Nwoye said that the cultural day started ten years ago and has continued to keep drawing the children and youths of the community to their root.
Mr Nwoye said that the event was made possible because of the conducive environment provided by Governor Soludo saying that in line with Governor Soludo’s directive for Ndi Anambra to be patronizing made in Anambra products, they provided palm wine and local delicacies like ede, abacha, akidi, fio fio, roasted yam among others.
Earlier in an opening remark, the Chairman on the occasion, Professor Ikem Ekweozor noted that Nawfia Cultural Day has been a special event which has brought people together irrespective of age and called on the youths of the community to always take pride in their rich cultural heritage.
