The President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe says that he will continue to consolidate on the policies that will uplift the living standards of local government workers in the state.

Comrade Adigwe who made this known in his 2024 new year message wished everyone a happy new year full of happiness and success in their personal and professional lives.

He recalled that few months back, Nigerians were faced with the policy of sudden removal of fuel subsidy without a functional refinery or putting the necessary machinery on ground to cushion its effect.

The NULGE President regretted that Nigerians are wandering in hardship in which Nigerian workers are the most affected, as the prices of goods and services are on daily increase, and hunger was biting harder while the petrol price keeps increasing, yet there is no upward review of workers salaries as dollar rate to Naira has continued to rise which inflicted more pains and hardship on Nigerian workers.

Comrade Adigwe expressed appreciation to some state Governors for their timely intervention in rolling out palliative measures to cushion the effects of hunger in the land, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo who was the first Governor in the South East region to put up palliative measures to the workers and Ndi Anambra in general, commending him for his timely intervention and implementation of the palliative measures.

He further said that they shall build and consolidate on the policies that will uplift the local Government workers and have them on board in the framework of special initiatives, as well as keep partnering with the state government towards the promotion of workers welfare and work towards the transformation and reformation of the local government system in Anambra state.

Comrade Adigwe insisted that they shall continue to support Government policies that will not be detrimental to the workers productivity and encourage training and retraining of workers.

He revealed that this year has the highlight of upward review of salaries and wages of workers in Nigeria, and that the National leadership of Organize Labour has set up a committee to negotiate with the federal Government in which the National President of NULGE is a member, and that the union will make a bold statement that will put smiles on the faces of Nigerians and local Government workers in particular.

The Anambra NULGE President assured that their flagship initiative remains total transformation of the local Government system as they have taken some bold steps towards addressing some policies that are not favorable to the workers in the local Government system.
