The Late Chief Pius Nweke Umeadi was born in the year 1935 to the family of late Chief Udezue Ezenwammadu and Udeaku Umeadi in Abagana, in present day Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. Even from his early years, Pius showed the same diligence and hard work that was exemplified by his father, the industrious Udezue Ezenwammadu Umeadi who was a wealthy farmer and trader.
Pius completed his elementary education in his hometown, Abagana where he distinguished himself with academic excellence. Then he preceded to Christ the King College, CKC, Onitsha for his secondary school education. There he also graduated in flying colours. From there, he left for University of Nigeria Nsukka where he studied Chemistry, and then United States of America where he studied Chemical Engineering.
Despite his academic achievements, Pius remained solidly connected to his roots: his family and his community. The lifelong bond between him and his siblings was uncommon and was admired by those who witnessed it. In 1978, he married the beautiful Pauline Chinwe Umeadi (nee Enedah of Urueze Odidida Ogidi). Their union lasted for 45 years and produced two sons, two beautiful daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. Pius poured out his life to love and care for his family, relatives, and community.
When he embarked on his career with the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), his love for family and his desire to provide and care, was a major driving force for him. Pius distinguished himself within the organization, rising to the level of Zonal Head. But he was never a man to pursue career advancement for its sake. Throughout his career and work life, his core motivation remained the same: love and care for the people around him.
In the latter years of his life, Chief Pius Umeadi became the oldest living member of the large Umeadi family of Abagana. He wore this position with grace and
dignity, seeking only the unity and prosperity of this great family. Another position he was especially proud of was his conferment as the Patron of the Catholic Men’s Organization, Awka Diocese.
On November 30, 2023, there was a great sunset for the Umeadi family. Daddy Pius passed on to be with the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who know him.
To mourn his departure, his family has outlined his funeral rite to begin on Thursday January 04, 2024 with a vigil mass which will hold at his residence at Adagbe Enuagu Abagana by 5pm. The next day, Friday, January 05, 2024, once it is 7am, his body will leave Bekee Memorial Hospital, Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area for his country home at Adagbe Enuagu Abagana where his body will lie in state. At 8am, funeral mass will be held in his honour. Interment and condolence visits will follow thereafter. On Sunday January 07, 2024, outing mass will hold at St Martin’s Hilltop Catholic Church, Abagana.
Ezenwachinaemelu, naa n’udo.
Remain in the bosom of the Lord until we meet again, Amen.
