Nawgu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the contract for the construction of Ukpo junction-Nawgu-Isuaniocha-Ikem Nando Road.

 

The President General of Nawgu Development Union, Prince Frank Nwegwu, who made the commendation at the 2023 Nawgu Day Celebration, said that awarding the construction of the road is a great gift to the community.

He thanked Governor Soludo for giving the Nawgu community a sense of belonging in the affairs of his administration, and promised continued support of the community to his administration and political ambitions in future.

 

On interventions in primary education in Nawgu, Prince Nwegwu called on all to contribute to improving the condition of education in the community, and expressed the hope that more teachers will be posted to Nawgu in the new teacher’s recruitment exercise by the Anambra State Government.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr. Augustine Onyemaobi, who hails from the community, thanked Governor Soludo for creating an enabling environment for such an event, and promised to sustain efforts to localize the solution agenda in the area in coming years.

 

The Member representing Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Chuks Azotani, represented by Mr. Gabriel Udeogu, promised to continue to attract democracy dividends to his constituency that includes Nawgu, even as his predecessor, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu, who received an award at the event, promised continued support to ensure that dividends of democracy are not in short supply in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

Other award recipients, including the National President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, represented by Mr. Uchenna Nwoye-Oragwuncha, former President General of Nawgu Development Union, Ichie Bartholomew Okeke, Chief Martins Enedeanya, all promised continued support for sustainable community development.

 

Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion and former President General of Nawgu Development Union, Chief Christian Ogegbunam, who noted that Nawgu once suffered great setbacks, called for support to present leadership in the community for continuous development.

The event featured inauguration of Nawgu Elders council, inauguration of new leadership of youth body in the community, as well as presentation of trophies to winners in sports competitions in the community.
