Umunakwa kindred, Ifite Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area and Umuosikpana kindred in Akwa-Ukwu Idemili South Local Government Area have entered into peace accord.

 

The two communities said to have been in great feud since 1969 and had a written summon issued at Onitsha Judicial Division of High Court of the defunct East Central State in July 1971 and later went through the Appellate court and was discharged at the Supreme court after which they sort for mediation of the matter.

The reunion which took place at the Uzoiru-Ugwuogazi land boundary attracted, Igwe Daniel Udoji of Oraifite, Chairman of Umuosikpana village, Akwa-Ukwu, Mr. Calistus Anuba, elders and members of both communities.

 

Speaking during the event, Governor Chukwuma Soludo represented by Anambra state Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Don Onyenji, Commended the two communities for resolving the age long feud that may have resulted to bloodshed in the absence of an amicable settlement.

The Traditional Ruler of Oraifite, Igwe Udoji stressed the need for the people to seek peace and resolve issues amicably.

 

The Chinaman on the occasion, Chief Boniface Okonkwo expressed satisfaction with the reunion and peace between the two communities, listed some challenges encountered during the conflict.

On his part, Engineer Ifesie expressed gratitude to God for using him to bring to an end the age long crisis between Umuosikpana and Umunakwa kindred which paved way for the reunion.

 

Also speaking, Mr Uchenna Anayo described the event as remarkable as the two communities celebrated the peaceful resolution of a conflict that has Lasted for fifty-five years resulting to boycott of inter-marriages between the two communities and prayed for a lasting peace.

Re-nouncement of curses and reunion practice, dance by the women among other outdoor activities featured during the reunion.
