At the end of every year, People of Urunnebo Ozom, Enugu-Ukwu in Njikoka council area gather to celebrate themselves, eat, dine together and thank God for keeping them all through the year.

 

2023 was not an exception as sons and daughters of Urunnebo as well as their friends and associates including the Deputy Speaker Anambra state House of Assembly, Honourable Chukwuma Okoye converged once again to celebrate Ozom Day.

 

During the event, those who are eighty years and above were honoured with various awards.

Other distinguished sons and daughters of Ozom were given various awards for their contributions to the growth and development of the community.

 

Also, school children from primary to tertiary level were given scholarships as while those in primary category were given ten thousand naira each, those in secondary schools were given fifteen thousand naira and those in the universities received thirty thousand naira each.

Urunnebo people in the United States of America used the occasion to donate a shuttle bus and motorcycle to aid the security apparatus of Urunnebo.

 

Addressing ndi Ozom , the member representing Njikoka two constituency Honourable Chidi Ibemeka thanked God that they are alive to witness the event and appreciated all Ozom children for their contributions to the good of their community especially the support they give to promote education of their children.

The President-General of Urunnebo Ozom, Mr Leonard Okonkwo, in an address, welcomed all to the event and said it provided them another opportunity to raise money for their welfare and urged those who were given special award at the event to donate generosity for their programmes in the next three years.

 

A stakeholder in the area Chief Tony Okafor, a member of Ozom in the diaspora said it feels good to come back to one’s roots once in a while to feel the unity and togetherness of their people and then plan together way forward for the community.

A former Commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra state Mrs Theresa Obiekezie, and a former political appointee in the immediate past administration in the state Mr Emeka Ozumba in an interview, said that Ozom-Day gives them opportunity to network and interact on opportunities that are yet to be tapped and how to promote growth and development of their village.

 

One of the awardees Mr Cyril Onuzuluike and an octogenarian, appreciated the leadership of Ozom for recognizing them with such an honour, saying that they will do their best to support the growth and development of the area.
