The second Ife Awkuzu Annual Summit has ended with a call on every member of the society to become part of the development process as government cannot do it alone.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Professor Offornze Amucheazi made the call at Awkuzu Civic Center, Oyi Council Area during the second Ife Awkuzu Annual Summit organised by Ifee Awkuzu Development Association.
Ife Awkuzu Development Association focuses on identifying and promoting positive values among young people and encouraging them to become change agents in their communities and the nation.
The summit which had the theme, “Human Capital Development, Bedrock to Community Development” attracted top government officials, the traditional ruler of Awkuzu, Igwe Charles Anikweze, the academic community, youths and other sons and daughters of Awkuzu.
Professor Amucheazi who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the keynote speaker at the event, said that conscious and deliberate efforts must be driven at community levels to identify the human capital development gaps towards the adoption of multi-faceted strategies to close the gaps through education, conflict management, poverty reduction, infrastructural upgrade and rehabilitation.
Professor Amucheazi noted that to achieve the desired objective of the theme of the summit, Town Union Management Committee or leadership must understand its role as a fulcrum, operating with clear vision in a transparent and accountable manner alongside all other community-based organizations.
The traditional ruler of Awkuzu, Igwe Anikweze noted that human capital development is crucial for a town like theirs to generate a community of skilled and motivated workforce that can drive innovation and adaptability and maintain a competitive edge in the market.
On his part, the lead speaker, Mr Valentine Ozigbo said that the three key things that drives development in the society is level and quality of education, health care system and poverty eradication, stating that in the absence of these, the society will lack a lot and called on Ndi Awkuzu to ensure they embark on initiatives that will bring solutions to these basic challenges in their communities.
Earlier in a welcome address, the President of the association, Barrister Emma Nweke who said the association is the largest platform for interested Awkuzu graduates, noted that they are providing financial support to selected indigent Awkuzu students at any level of education.
Presentation of awards to individuals who have supported and distinguished themselves for the development of education including the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in last year’s general elections, former Governor Peter Obi, Professor Amucheazi and many others were the highlights of the summit.
