Isulo community in Orumba South Local Government Area has celebrated the last Ofala festival of their traditional ruler, Igwe Felix Maduka.
Held at Ikpanwojukwu Primary School Field, the last ofala festival, according to the people’s culture, ended the reign of the traditional ruler, who joined his ancestors on April twenty-sixth, 2023, after ruling for a few years.
Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that Igwe Felix Maduka departed at the age of sixty-nine and the festival attracted people from all walks of life including traditional rulers and business associates, among others.
The festival turned out to be a sort of carnival as various groups from quarters and villages, clad in different costumes, displayed their cultural heritage .
Addressing the community, the Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council in Orumba South Local Government Area, Igwe Bernard Emejuo of Eziagu urged the community to maintain peace until a new traditional ruler is carefully elected.
The President-General of Isulo Development Union, Mr. Onyeka Eze, and one of the members of Igwe’s cabinet Chief Chinwuba Mmaduakor, praised the late Igwe Maduka for his philanthropy and relative peace during his reign, expressing regret that he did not celebrate his first Ofala, but now he is celebrating his last Ofala.
In an interview, Chairman of the Festival Steering Committee, Dr. Samuel Oguagbaka and Palace Secretary, Chief Eric Olendi, acknowledged Igwe Maduka’s contributions to the community and his role in attracting investments.
Responding, the wife of the late traditional ruler, Lady Stella Maduka and son Prince Felix described him as a visionary leader with unfulfilled dreams for the community, lamenting the loss of a great king.
The festival showcased various masquerades, concluding with the son’s performance in honour of the late traditional ruler.
