Pius Okafor Conferred Ozonkpu Title Of Enugwu-Ukwu

The rich cultural heritage of Enugwu-Ukwu in taking the Ozonkpu title was on display when Chief Pius Okafor of Ire village was admitted into the prestigious apex title of the community.

The ceremony, which had Ozonkpu title holders of Enugwu-Ukwu in attendance, was presided over by Ozo Anene Okonkwo who led the title process.

Ozonkpu Okonkwo in his remark during the ceremony explained that the title is the apex one in the community being taken by responsible, honest and diligent people, who would become custodians of keeping the culture and traditions as it is at all times.

Speaking after his Ozonkpu title rites, which includes, wearing of anklets, handing over of ngu Ozonkpu, wearing of red cap with two feathers amongst other regalia, Ozonkpu Okafor with the title name ‘Ezenwa’ noted that it was a great privilege to take the coveted title to keep traditions alive, which he has been doing in Houston, United States of America, where he is based, promising to remain truthful and honest, as expected of him.

A son to the celebrated, Mr. Emeka Okafor emphasized that it was awesome being back home to be part of the festivities, especially with the title ceremony of his father, noting that it was a beautiful thing being among his people.

An Ozo Awka title holder, Chief Onwuka Mba remarked that it is quite interesting to be initiated into an Ozo title, which demands that the person will become an ambassador in keeping the culture of Ndi Igbo alive, wishing Ozonkpu Okafor well in his new elevation.

Another Ozo title holder at the ceremony, Chief Chinedu Ikeanyi from Enugwu Agidi and Chief Paul Ifediba said that taking the Ozo titles demand integrity, character and wealth for one to be accepted into it and wished Ozonkpu Okafor well.

Chief Patrick Agwuna pointed out that having such a ceremony helps in bringing back the Igbo cultural heritage and appreciated Ozo Okafor for being a cultural ambassador even back in the USA where he is based.

The event also featured decoration of Ozonkpu Okafor’s wife, Mrs. Nwanneka Okafor, egwu Ufio dance, masquerade display, women group dance amongst others.
