Anambra governor’s wife and founder of the non-governmental movement, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has begun moves to introduce breast cancer mitigation programme to the state.

The governor’s wife, who disclosed this in a post on her official social media accounts, said that the programme will be part of her NGO’s focus on raising awareness and providing support for the elimination of the dangerous disease among women.

Mrs Soludo explained that a key part of the intervention is to promote education, advocate timely checks, build collaborations, and mobilize resources to help those with the disease.

She noted that the programme may also seek partnerships with reputable stakeholders to provide screening services and, in some cases, give treatments to those whose results are positive.

While pointing to the threats of breast cancer being a leading cause of death among Nigerian women, Mrs Soludo spoke on the need for regular breast checks, stating that the disease is not a death sentence if found out early enough.

She stated that with the results achieved in free cervical cancer screening and treatment in Anambra State, she is confident that the breast cancer mitigation programme will be significant in the fight to eliminate the disease in Anambra State.

The governor’s wife further noted that the programme will have a larger concentration on rural women and semi-urban residents, adding that the current statistics of breast cancer call for a more responsive approach.

The Anambra first lady equally pointed out that eating right and adopting the best healthy lifestyle can prevent most household diseases and called for a complete reassessment of what one consumes and their implications to health.
